About Five Plus Six


Five Plus Six is an eleven piece jazz band based in Knoxville, TN and led by trumpeter and arranger Vance Thompson. The group is about half way between a small group and a big band.  It is essentially a jazz quintet plus six additional horns, hence the name. The group concept was inspired by the ensemble featured on Nicholas Payton's Dear Louis record, and performs original arrangements of music from inside and outside the jazz tradition.
